Facebook today, rolls out Facebook Camera Application for iOS devices. It is an independent photo app which you can use to filter, capture, and share photos. This application also facilitates viewing the photo albums uploaded by your friends. Facebook is more focused on quicker publishing than developing an app with more features. It will not turn out as a competitor to Facebook’s recent acquisition Instagram because both of these apps are doing different jobs.
Facebook Camera allows you to pick one among a pool of photos, filter them, and even lets you tag your friends and locations. You can also add descriptions for the photos. It presently has 14 various filters, which will help you find your desired photo much quicker. Streamlined interface and multiple uploads are a big advancement from Facebook for iOS devices.
The application’s main screen contains a camera button for capturing new photos, and gives you faster access to the pictures in your camera for instant uploading. You will also be able to browse through a newsfeed of photos, which would only contain the photos which were uploaded by your friends. You can view your albums and the ‘photos you were tagged in’ with a click. The photo newsfeed is updating real-time. The comments are loaded up as an overlay so that you don’t need to open up a separate screen to make comments. You can comment and Like the photo while being in the same page.
The best feature of the application is that it’s batch-upload feature. Unlike Instagram, you can upload multiple photos at the same time. This is made possible with the help of another application named ‘Batch’, which is designed especially for group uploads. Going through the photo stories is cool too, because they are published as a single story in your newsfeed without consuming much space. You just need to swipe to view the rest of the photos. In Facebook Camera, there is a placeholder at first, which looks nice. But in the case of Instagram, you have to wait for all photos to finish loading to browse through the collection. The 14 filters are named sensibly and its easier to filter your photos.
