Well, rooting is another word that we hear as much as ‘Android’. Only the curious and adventurous guys will risk rooting their phone – because it’s just a bit risky, considering that you may end up turning your new gadget into a brick.
But, trust me, it’s worth the risk. Your Android phone has much more to offer, when you’ve rooted it. There is one way which is believed to be one of the safest and easiest methods to root your phone – SuperOneClick. I assume you have a freshly rooted Android phone with a newly flashed ROM. If not, you can follow some pretty cool guides out there.
Wireless Tethering – Internet Access with Android Powered WiFi
Most of us are having a data plan activated on our phone through a cellular provider. At times, you will be struck at some place without having any means to access the Internet. Be it a college matter, or an email to be sent, you need an internet access to get that done. What would you do?
You’re not supposed to use tethering without having activated a tethering plan as it violates the TOS with your cellular service provider. Don’t worry. You just need to fire up the Wireless Tether App and now, you can easily create a WiFi hotspot right away. You can use the new wireless connection on your laptop to access the Internet.
Please note that, you may also need a ROM like cyanogenmod to be installed in your phone. And it should support netfilter for proper functioning. Once you’ve a green icon, data transmission will begin and your phone will start transmitting data packets to your laptop after the conversion from 3G signals.
Optionally, you can protect your network from being used by others, or you can leave it unprotected (intrusion is possible, not recommended). Your device will appear in your laptop, at the moment your phone starts data transmission.

Overclocking / Undervolting Using Setvsel
Overclocking is basically speeding up your Android phone. Many people root their phones for just overclocking. For some, the concern will be speed, and for some, it may be battery life of their phone. That doesn’t matter. If you’ve your phone rooted, you can use Setvsel app to overclock or undervolt your phone.
Install and run the application first. It will display the CPU speed in the screen. You can slide the blue bar to left, to overclock your phone – and thus increase performance. Slide it to the right instead, to save your battery life.
Note: You may damage your phone if overclocking isn’t done properly.

You can track your phone using an app Mobile Defense if your phone gets stolen some day. But it only allows some general tracking. A full remote access is possible with a rooted Android phone, using WebKey app. Some accessible settings include – Android’s GPS, location, SD card etc.
Install the app and run it. Add users and log in. Just click on the ‘Start Service’ button there. You can access your device using a LAN with the IP address. Anywhere else, you need the androidwebkey.com page to access your phone settings. There are many complex settings and this app is extremely powerful. It gives you full access – you can capture snapshots, open a web page on your phone, execute commands, and even make a phone call.
